Phil Woodford

Biography

After graduating from the LSE in 1990, I spent two years organising and marketing international conferences before pursuing a career as a copywriter. My first role was in a multinational direct marketing business and I subsequently worked as a senior writer and creative director in agencies specialising in employer branding, employee communication and recruitment marketing. I’ve had a close association with a number of clients in the private, public and voluntary sectors and have won industry awards for my creative work in the press and on the web.

I am a visiting lecturer at both the University of Westminster and the University of the Arts London, where I have taught a variety of topics including advertising theory, propaganda, copywriting and creative writing. At the end of 2005, I took the decision to become self-employed as a writer, lecturer and professional trainer.

Outside my life in advertising, I have had a close involvement with community and political issues. I stood as a Labour Parliamentary Candidate in the 1997 and 2001 general elections and have served on the board of a further education college and London-based charity.
